A Wedding Poem by Troy Hoeft, written and read to my beautiful daughter on her wedding day 6.5.2010

Kimmy

And then you were born…

I had my little girl

Your lips so perfectly round and quivering

Your little body

In daddy’s arms

I prayed for this day then…

And then you were three

“How do you want your hair”? I asked

Half up half down daddy with my big white bow

You got what you wanted

I worked at your pre-school that day

You were so excited

Push me higher daddy… higher…

You got what you wanted

I prayed for this day then…

And then you were a cheerleader

So beautiful so majestic

“Daddy, come watch me practice this new move”

You got what you wanted

I was shocked I was frightened

You stood so tall so straight with that beautiful sexy grin

They swung you from their shoulders

Your beautiful head rocketing straight down

Your flowing pony tail scraping the ground

Your head inches from disaster at breakneck speed

I was speechless… I was angry… I was elated…

There you stood back on their shoulders in one fell swoop tall and straight with that beautiful sexy grin

My little girl was growing up

I prayed for this day then

We sat together father and daughter there on the floor

“Why do you want to marry this man” I asked

“I love him daddy… He’s my warrior… He’s going off to war and I want to be with him before he leaves.”

How can I say no to you…? How can I say no to that…?

You got what you wanted

I prayed for this day then

“How are you going to wear your hair”? I asked

Half up half down
